When I get my head on straight I'll tell ya

What I’m looking for at E3

As has been discussed many times before, I’m a gamer. Like most folks I played on an Atari when it came out, did some light dos gaming when that was the shit, and now I have my consoles and when I get a new desktop I may add PC gaming back into the mix(gaming on a laptop is okay but heat is not your friend. I may get a high-end gaming laptop in the future but we shall see). So every year around June comes the grand daddy of them all the Electronic Entertainment Expo(thus the E3), where companies show off their new games, tech, peripherals, and make their promises of world domination. It used to be impossible to see what was going on, it would happen you would buy a gaming magazine and then you would see what came out the month before, but oh what a time we live in. Come tomorrow at 9:30 am all I have to do is tune in to YouTube or twitch and I get to see livestreams(I think they have a u-stream as well, but I know about twitch and YouTube).

So if I’m not a lucky enough bastard to have plunked down somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 grand for the entire weeks events I can still kind of enjoy them(cause you know I do work), find out who is bringing out what, what is changing, and why I might want to fork over XYZ bucks. Last year, I was amazed by Fallout 4(and while that USUALLY isn’t my type of game I am loving it right now) and I fell for the watchdogs hype(really not my type of game), and while bloodborne is okay I gave that to my brothers. So this year now that the initial leaks have come out: Injustice 2, Watchdogs 2(no thanks fool me once), Titanfall 2, Horizon Zero Dawn new trailer(with release date), and a few that are escaping my memory. As I check youtube gaming(YouTube’s answer to twitch) I’m seeing that a bunch of gameplays got revealed and I really didn’t realize E3 started on Sunday.

Enough stalling, I expect to see Bathesda release news on their next big game you don’t rock the world with Fallout 4 and then go quiet. Gamers will bury you, seriously the “They blew their only good nut ever they will fall off the map like…” is not the buzz you want to come out about you. There should be another expansion for fallout 4(now I gotta plunk down 50 bucks for the season pass cause yeah those expansions are that shit). Rumors of either an HD remix for Skyrim, or maybe the next oblivion game or whatever have been floated. Microsoft and Sony will probably full reveal their mid gen consoles. I don’t know why people act like this is unheard of but both Sony and Microsoft have release “slim versions” of their consoles before. The Ps3 had a front and top loading version. The 36o went from having the hard drive removable from the top with a button press to requiring you to take a whole plate off. With some minor hardware improvements, which is why people acting like the PS4 Neo and the Xbox one slim and or Scorpio are a big deal are kind of foolish.

3 years is a long time in Hardware now(hell 6 months is an eternity) and most devices stay in our pockets, in front of our TV’s, or get back in our pockets because if they HAVE a bad year it’s only a bad year. Motorola was on the ash heap for the longest time until their new Droid and Droid X phones hit the ground running. LG started their G series, and lets not forget Samsung and their Galaxy series. Hell I myself am waiting for the Note 6 to drop. So it’s been about 2 years, Sony is in the lead because their hardware was JUST this much stronger(initially I think it was 1.8 to 1.3 teraflops in favor of Sony) as well as the E3 announcement for the Xbox one was botched. No offense but FORCING me to buy a 150 dollar peripheral that I may not want at all is a serious no bueno. Microsoft got off that stupidity but not before it cost them a few million sales. I understand that there were some CASUAL/FAMILY gamers who LOVED the connect, I never got into it. I usually game in my bedroom, the only times I did it in a different room was before all this connect, twitch, streaming, and esports shit got started we had a game room where all the consoles rested and we had a couple of TV’s in there that folks could play on.  Then when I was married and got kicked out of the bedroom because, ahem, I’m loud as fuck when I game. Now I don’t know I understand that there are benefits to owning a konnect(like supposedly it can see your codes so you don’t have to type them in, but I still don’t really have my bedroom set up for that shit. Maybe later, but again hardware changes happening within a long console cycle you probably didn’t notice.

I mean before hardware took so long to improve that gaming systems had 5 or 6 years before your average gamer was even on the same playing field. Now though, hard drive space is ridiculous, ram has dropping in prices and lets not even talk about the change from disks to solid state, how external storage has damn near caught up to internal drive sizes. And lets not talk about the more portable storage, remember when a flash/thumb drive was 512 mb, in a few months I will most likely be able to walk into my local electronics store and pick up 1,000 times that much. 128 and 256 gb sticks are already on the shelf, if you can find me something under 8 gb’s you’re a bad bad mad or woman.
